Luna Azul Unit 5

Luna Azul was a wonderful place to stay for our short stay in the Akumal/Tulum area. We were able to enjoy the beach, visit cenotes, the Coba Ruins, sail and snorkel with our car.

wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Es war alles wie beschrieben. Und auch wie auf den Bildern im Internet angegeben. Ein Kritikpunkt gibt es auf das kleine Bad. Der Abfluss von der Dusche hat nachts übelriechende Gase freigesetzt, Das war oft sehr, sehr unangenehm. Ich habe das auch reklamiert. Aber leider hat sich da nicht viel geändert. Ansonsten waren wir sehr, sehr zufrieden auch mit unserem Concierge. We had a great time at Luna Azul #5. The location was great and the staff was helpful and responsive to our needs. We love to snorkel and our experience is that the snorkeling in Half Moon Bay is better than just about anyplace we have ever been. We were disappointed that it was windy (and wavy) during our two week stay, and there was more sargassum stirred up in February than ever before, but that's nobody's fault. Just a reality about the beach. One thing that management can help with: they could use a few more lounge chairs on the beach. There weren't enough for all the guests that wanted them on several days we were there.

Luna Azul is in a quaint, quiet, and beautiful spot. The unit (#5) was perfect, overlooking the beach, perfect for sunrises, with everything you could want. It was decorated in a classic manner that added calm and beauty to the stay. You can walk to restaurants and stores, swim and snorkel in the bay at your doorstep. We had a car, which was needed for us. We walked 2 minutes to the local store for some essentials, and to a couple of restaurants, but mostly were driving to tourist attractions. In Half Moon Bay, we swam in warm, clear water, though with seaweed, the beach was not always easy to walk along, but doable. Snorkeling in the south side of the bay, we saw rays, squid, anemones, urchin, and loads of the gorgeous fish you find on Yucatan reefs. The reefs were in decent shape with varieties of coral, though more of it was just north of the center of the bay. Outdoor showers for rinsing, umbrellas and chairs to enjoy the view from. Pretty, safe, clean, just perfect. The description was accurate in all ways.

We loved out Luna Azul condo and were delighted to find that Akumal hasn't changed since our last visit in 2007. But the best part was Scott Brown, who was absolutely wonderful as a property manager. We weren't too thrilled with the condo we originally booked, but Scott managed to find us other accommodations and let us transfer locations. He was always pleasant and eager to please. Akumal Direct is the best!

We had a great time with our three kids (5-11 years old).
When the sea is calm you can spend the whole day Snorkeling in front of your apartment! You can eat for affordable prices in Akumal or stock up the large refrigerator and cook for yourself. Sometimes there were little ants in the kitchen, which did not really bother us.

Very clean, an amazing view on the sea. 2 big bedrooms, a nice restaurant 5 Min walking distance. But, there were so many sargassum elk on the beach and the sea, it was disappointing.

Wonderful 2 weeks in peace and quiet. No kids yelling, no volleyball on the beach or loud music...nothing to disturb the wonderful sound of waves and the wishhhhh of palm trees in the wind. We loved every minute and felt it was rejuvenating and mind restoring. We hope Half Moon Bay stays this way.
The only con and the reason for four stars and not five, is the king bed mattress needs to be replaced. One side is softer than the other and I found myself embedded in the morning. I exchanged sides with my husband and the other side is still too soft.
Other than that this condo was perfect for us, the whole staff was lovely and helpful. Convenient location to everything. We would love to go back.

It was a very beautiful place to stay, well designed and maintained. Being in the front room, we felt like we were outside! It is right on the beach with gorgeous views. The ocean was fabulous! It’s a little rocky getting in and out, water shoes were a must. We appreciated the privacy. It was very clean and well-appointed. David, the concierge, was available and very helpful. We loved our stay!

Everything was perfect in the apartment. Comfy bed, great view, and the apartment has everything you need to enjoy your time at the beach. The staff was also incredible and so kind and helpful. 10/10

A friend and i stayed at Luna Azul for 8 days. It is the perfect place to chill and enjoy lovely weather, crystal clear water and Mexican hospitality. We asked our maid to only come every other day - though she was supposed to come daily - and she did a fabulous job cleaning.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
Restaurants La Buena Vida and La Lunita are minutes away by foot and offer really tasty food at affordable prices.
All service workers wear masks and hand sanitizers/ temp taking are offered at most restaurants.
The Midway convenience store across from our villa had all the essentials st better prices than the Chomak in town and the chica working there was helpful and very accommodating.
Our only complaint was that taxi prices were inconsistent - we were told a taxi from our villa to Akumal Pueblo would be $10 US (by the guys in the office). We were actually charged $12 one way and $15 the other . When we questioned this (I am fluent in Spanish) they shrugged and basically said “That’s what I charge”, unfortunately making us feel we were being taken advantage of. Another couple staying at Luna Azul said they only paid $7 for the same trip.
Also - the communication I got from Locogringonsaid that the Covid test would be about $17 when it was in fact $44
Overall, a very satisfactory experience. I had been to Luna Azul about 20 years ago and found that particular stretch of beach pretty much unchanged and as lovely as ever.
We didn’t want to travel much outside the resort because of Covid, but I would recommend renting a car if you’re going to spend more than a few days. Akumal is about a mile walk along brick-paved streets and you probably don’t want to do that every day. Akumal Pueblo on the other side of the highway seems impossible to get to without a car. And of course there are so many wonderful ruins, cenotes, and colonial towns to visit as well.

We enjoyed our stay in Akumal. The house was great and looks exactly as shown in the photos. Location is good and near La Buena Vida restaurant and a small market. The staff at the office is very friendly and helpful. The house was very clean, kitchen had everything you need, SmartTV in each bedroom, and blow dryers were available on both bathrooms. I would recommend renting a golf cart as we used it daily to go into the main part of town for breakfast and or dinner. Our only complaint is the beds could be more comfortable in the guest bedroom. We absolutely loved Akumal.

This spot was a perfect location complimented by incredible guest management. I wanted a relaxing location where I could spend all day looking and hearing the sounds of the ocean. I got this and so much more. We went snorkeling, rented a golf cart to drive into the little village, and swam/hiked in an underground cave. The nearby restaurants served tasty food. But what stood out was how helpful all of the staff was to help us navigate our trip, get taxi's and transportation, correct our mishaps (lost the key to the golf cart), and be pleasant all the time. The maintenance team kept the place spotless. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect location and experience. Just what I needed & wanted. Thank you.

Before deciding on Unit#5, I did a lot of research. I had preferred a condo with a pool, but this unit and price was perfect. The unit is beautiful and the view and sound of the ocean is unmatched. We were able to walk to a little store, to La Buena Vida and La Lunita. It's located walking distance to the most amazing snorkeling of Yal-Ku Lagoon. We also went to Xel-Ha, Xpu-Ha and the monkey sanctuary. All VERY close. Went to Lol-Ha and listened to a band. Swam with the turtles and went to Puerto Aventuras and Playa Del Carmen. Everything close and easy. The office staff and cleaning staff were wonderful. We rented a car and that was our only initial difficulty(nothing to do with this rental unit) Do NOT use or any other at the airport. After America Rental Cars failed to pick us up at the airport, we called Yes Rental Cars. They provided amazing service for a total of 7 days with insurance and taxes for $315. The night before our trip to Xel-Ha, the car was acting up. I called at 10:00pm and they dropped off an upgraded car by 8:00am the next morning. You definitely need water shoes for most swimming. Miss being there already.

The condo was very nice. Loved the location, very quiet and peaceful.

We so enjoyed our week at Indian Shores. The condo was well stocked with everything we needed (except a blender!). The pool & hot tub were clean & wonderful to have. We also enjoyed sitting on the dock. It was truly a short walk to the beach with our own path! We will be back!

Quiet Waters truly was "quiet". Very nice complex with a nice pool and patio area (with gas grill and a corn hole area) and easy beach access across the road. This particular unit met our needs. The kitchen was not overly well stocked dishes wise. Living area was a good size. Both bedrooms were clean and larger than we expected; comfortable mattresses. Bathrooms were clean. Washer and dryer in unit.

Overall cleanliness though was not impressive. Carpets are in need of a serious clean, kitchen cabinets interior were kinda grimy, most dishes had to be washed before used. We did notice the sliding door wouldn't lock upon arrival and they sent some one first thing the following morning. Easy communication with Seaside Property Shoppe. If you are planning to come here you need to bring extra paper towels, toilet paper (if staying several days). There were no washcloths, only towels and hand towels. Would be nice to see these things provided along with more dishwasher tablets.

Beach was not a busy area. We liked that the unit is away from shops and restaurants directly but they're within a 2-3 mile radius.

We would stay here again if the unit had a good deep clean, cleanliness was the only disappointment.

Kitchen tap should be replaced as it leaked. It's a little rusty. The shower head in the master bathroom should be cleaned with CLR so that the water comes out better. The exhaust fan in the second bathroom needs to be cleaned. Finally, the patio doors should be fixed a litle better so that they can lock better and make sure that the end pieces stayed locked and don't move from their fixed position.

Resort was very quiet and friendly. Pool became the meeting place every morning and visitors mixed with residents regularly sharing experiences and recommendations for eating places. I'll be back.

We continue to come back year after year because we enjoy the accommodations and the area immensely. The condo is kept clean, we have orioles and warblers in the palm trees off the veranda, we can see turtles and stingrays from the porch and the snorkeling is superb. Throw in some Mayan ruins, the Carribean blue of the water and the sound of rolling rocks on the shore and what more could you want?

Akumal definitely exudes more of an ex-pat versus "authentico" feel, but our family agreed it is the perfect base for a trip to QRoo. The clear and still waters of Akumal Beach lapping up onto the white sand are amazing, as are the shallow snorkeling wonders of Half Moon Bay. And the food! Not nearly enough time to sample all of the exceptional restaurants. Our Akumal favorites were La Lunita (never has grouper been prepared so well as on their Christmas Eve menu & they also win best margarita in Akumal), Turtle Bay Bakery (sticky buns!), Lol Ha (our favorite guacamole on this trip), and Que Onde. As for our condo, a few of the pluses at Luna Azul #5: Location! Sunrise! Clear ocean! Kitchen! Hot water showers! Comfortable beds in spacious rooms! Great restaurants nearby! What I would add if I owned #5: A comfortable chair or two for reading. Improved guest suggestion book with restaurant menus, more detailed recommendations of how-to's, and insider tips. More small rugs. Hints on how to get rid of ants (ouch!). Maps of the area, even if a large wall map. Overall, a lovely place and we were very happy to spend Christmas with our family in Akumal!

This was our second stay in Akumal and second stay at Luna Azul. Everything was WONDERFUL! The staff is so helpful. Jorge at Luna Azul was there when I needed him and extra helpful with anything we (about 14 of us at Luna Azul) needed. We will be back. Marieke was also wonderful. She picked up where Leslie left off and was absolutely amazing. The entire staff is probably the best of any place that I have visited.

Great place for a family vacation. It's quiet, but not too secluded. Plenty of services nearby. Good snorkeling just outside the door in the bay. Plus the lagoon is just a short walk away. The Mayan ruins of Coba and Tulum are each a fun day trip. (Just arrive early to avoid the crowds and heat.) The only minor problem was having to open the south window in the living room in order to get internet connection.

A nice breeze flows through the unit, and the sound of waves is lovely. The staff was professional and helpful. This is the 3rd time in the past 4 years that we have returned to Luna Azul and soaked up the wonders of Akumal. We love staying at Luna and don't even discuss finding an alternative place.

As usual I had a great stay in Akumal. I stayed at both Luna Azul & The Reef condos. I have been going to Akumal for the last 20 years. Although it's getting to be more known, it's still the best kept secret south of Cancun.

We were awestruck by the beautiful sunrises, the gentle waves breaking on our private beach and the balmy weather in December. There were several wondeful restaurants in the area and terrific snorkeling. Esp4ecially liked the lagoon about half a mile away. I would definitely recommend this condo and would go again. The only negative we found was the access road. It was hard to negotiate, but was being worked on so perhaps is better by now. Too many pot holes!
